Michael was born in Brisbane on 3 March 1992. Being the youngest of four boys, Michael has never been shy when it comes to adventuring. Growing up in Tarragindi he attended Junction Park State School before following his brothers to Brisbane State High. This afforded him a great variety of opportunities. In the sporting field he represented the school in cricket, rugby union, tennis, cross country and volleyball. Another of Michael’s enjoyments is playing the trumpet and at State High he was a member of their Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Big Band. He also plays in a music team at his church.
Michael’s desire to ride around Australia on a bicycle started in primary school. In Year 7 he raised funds for Leukemia Research by shaving his head at a school assembly for Shave-For-A-Cure. As a member of the Tarragindi Scout Group, Michael went on his first over night bike hike at age 10 and participated in further bicycle hikes as he progressed through Scouting. The dream to cycle around Australia grew with the years and the thought to link it with raising funds for the Queensland Cancer Council took seed as his family has been affected by cancer many times over the years. The recent death of his grandfather to cancer has added fire to his belly to achieve this goal.
Having completed Year 12 in 2009, Michael is currently in the middle of the journey. If you would like any more information on this journey or how to support Michael follow the Contact link.
